Tristar Aircraft Wreck Dive Site in Aqaba

The Tristar Aircraft Dive Site in Aqaba is one of the newest and most iconic underwater attractions in the Red Sea. In 2019, the Jordanian authorities intentionally sank a retired Lockheed L-1011 Tristar passenger aircraft to create an artificial reef and provide divers with a unique wreck diving experience while supporting marine conservation.

Today, the aircraft rests on a sandy seabed just off Aqaba’s South Beach, where it has quickly become home to colorful corals, reef fish, lionfish, moray eels, and many other marine species. The impressive size of the airplane allows divers to swim around its wings, engines, cockpit, and passenger cabin while enjoying excellent visibility throughout the year.

The Tristar is suitable for certified divers and underwater photographers looking for one of the most unusual scuba diving sites in Aqaba. Combined with nearby attractions such as the Cedar Pride Wreck and the Underwater Military Museum, it has become an essential stop for anyone exploring the famous dive sites of the Jordanian Red Sea.
